Human Trafficking Awareness “Slavery in the 21st Century”

Human trafficking is the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. There are an estimated 36 million people in this modern day slavery in the world today.
Human trafficking (both sex and labor) trafficking is the fastest growing organized crime and is the second largest criminal enterprise in the world. ~ (Source: The Lutheran Office for Public Policyin Wisconsin.)

Guest Speakers will be:
-Rev. Cindy Crane from the Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin, who will discuss how to advocate for the abused and traumatized victims of 21st Century slavery;
-Tammy DeGarmo from Project 16:49, Who is a representative of a local non-profit serving Rock County’s homeless teens;
-Officer Ben Biddick of the Janesville Police Department and
– Kim Westfahl from Lutheran Social Services, who will discuss services needed to treat victims of human trafficking.

In addition to the featured speakers, there will booths sponsored by local organizations that provide assistance and on-going services to
victims of human trafficking and those who wish to help them.
The program is free, but guests are asked to please bring art supplies (beads and thread, paints of all kinds, clay, knitting supplies, adult coloring books, color pencils, art canvasses, and storage boxes). Teen and young adult books are also needed.

The Seminar will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 302 N. Parker Drive, Janesville, WI Guests should enter through double doors on North Parker Drive. Parking is available in large lot across the street
