Free Reception Showcases Watercolor Batiks
Evansville, WI, January 12, 2017: The Creekside Place Art Committee presents the paintings of Lynn Barber at an opening reception on Thursday, February 2, 2017, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Creekside Place, 102 Maple Street, Evansville, WI. Guests can view the art, talk with the artist, and enjoy complimentary appetizers and a cash bar. Original works, prints and note cards will be available for purchase.
Batik is a technique of layering wax and watercolors to produce varying shades of color. Barber uses Ginwashi rice paper, a semi-transparent paper with small fibers running through it. “This paper gives the batiks a wonderful texture and a unique natural look,” Barber said. “The edges are deckled, which gives the batik a feathery finish.”
Barber grew up in Edgerton, WI, and now lives in Port Washington, WI, a small harbor town on the shores of Lake Michigan. She credits her surroundings with inspiring her work. “I have always loved nature, and my batiks are inspired by the beautiful, peaceful world around me when I am outdoors.”
A member of the Cedarburg Artists Guild, Barber exhibits at art fairs throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Examples of her work can be seen on her website, naturesartstudio.weebly.com.
Barber’s exhibit, Watercolor Batiks on Rice Paper, will be on display in the Andrew Family Art Gallery at Creekside Place from January 19 through March 8, 2017. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., as well as Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
