Letter Carrier Food Drive and Volunteers

Saturday, May 10, 2008

Numerous Locations , 6 a.m.

The Letter Carrier Food Drive is now being organized locally and will be held in many area communities on Saturday, May 10, 2008.
This food drive is a national initiative to “Stamp Out Hunger.” Local Letter Carriers and United Way of North Rock County team together locally to make this project a success.
This year, volunteers are encouraged to sign up to help at the event. You can sign up by calling United Way of North Rock County’s Volunteer Network at 757-3058. Mike Ott, Letter Carrier organizer at the Janesville Post Office said, “In Janesville, volunteers would come to the Janesville post office. They’d meet letter carriers on their routes and load the food into your own vehicle to bring back to the post office for sorting. This is a great help and we rely on volunteers to get this job done.”
Call Volunteer Network at 757-3058 for more information.

Residents are asked to leave non-perishable, non-breakable food items at their mailboxes on May 10th, in the morning prior to their postal delivery; Letter Carriers pick up the food with many local volunteers assisting. In the Footville area, food can be dropped off at the Footville Post Office.
Food also will be picked up on the Orfordville routes by the Letter Carriers. The communities of Edgerton, Evansville, Milton and Janesville are also participating again.
You know your area is participating in the drive if you receive the Campell Soup’s postcard in the mail featuring a cartoon by ‘Family Circus’ artist Bill Keane.
