Disconnected

By Justin Brown ( Contact )   February 28, 2008

Our home phone is unlisted for obvious reasons. It's also registered on the 'Do Not Call List.' We haven't had any problems with telemarketers calling and that's nice.

But...

I have been getting a ton of "wrong numbers" and text messages from people I don't know on my cell phone recently. And it all started around the same time. Obviously someone who is much more popular than me has a cell phone number not too far off from mine.

I mean, I'm getting calls from the following area codes: 815; 608; 262; and 414. And of course...they are all calling me between Midnight and 4am!

This morning, Mary told me she found my cell phone on the floor out in the kitchen. I assumed a cat jumped up on the counter where he shouldn't be in the first place, and knocked it off. I then realized that I never took my phone off of vibrate mode from being here at work, set it on the counter, got a phone call at 1:50am, it vibrated right off the counter and onto the kitchen floor.

Thank goodness I had my phone on vibrate. I usually leave my phone "On" during the night. I think that all stops right now. The last thing I need is to be getting phone calls or text messages ("Ding Dong!") on my cell waking up the baby...OR ME!!!

I feel like calling this person from last night and asking them 1) Who the heck were you trying to reach? and 2) Why in the world are you calling them at 2 in the morning!? Of course at 2am my language might not be as friendly.

What would you do? Would you call these numbers back and ask "May I help you?" Or would you let it go? I think I'll just be shutting off my phone every night from now on.

We used to get hang-up calls, all from the same number. I called it back once and got a very nice lady who suspected her teenager had been calling us by mistake.

No more calls from that number afterwards.

Everyone was very nice about it.
But then again, none of the calls came at 2am.

I say call them--maybe all of the calls are connected and if you call one person, maybe the word might spread that you are not who they are looking for. Just make sure you're fully angry first! :)
