The Award Goes To...

By Justin Brown ( Contact )   April 9, 2008

This past Saturday night was the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association 2007 Awards For Excellence Dinner. I'm proud to say that Bliss Communications did very well.

My wife Mary and I rode up to Madison's Monona Terrace with News Flow Editor Kyle Keissler and his wife Robin. This was my first time to a WBA Event and to Monona Terrace. I had always heard about what a lovely facility it was. And the view of Lake Monona was just that.

The awards ceremony gave us an opportunity to dress up and act like grown ups, away from changing dirty diapers, burp cloths and bottle feedings. Mary had her hair done earlier in the day. I got decked out in a new suit jacket, pants and tie. We both joked about how we haven't been this dressed up since our wedding in 2005!

The WBA gives out awards in many categories to stations in Small, Medium, and Major Markets for the state. Janesville is in the "Medium Market." We compete against the likes of Green Bay, Eau Claire, Fond du Lac, Appleton, Oshkosh, Sheboygan, La Crosse, Wausau, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rappids, Racine, Manitowoc, Beloit & Kenosha. (I think I got them all)

Madison & Milwaukee are the only cities in Major Market for the state. All other cities fall into the Small Market category.

On a personal note, I was happy to have been nominated as a finalist in the 'Best Personality/Personalities' for Medium Market.

It was the 1st time I've entered the contest, and to be a finalist was an honor. I took 3rd place. 2nd place went to "The Morning Show" on WFDL-FM/Fond du Lac. And 1st place was given to Lee & Nikki, the Morning Show on WDEZ-FM/Wausau. There are many great radio stations and personalities in Wisconsin. I consider myself lucky to have been named with these fine morning shows and congratulate the winners.

I'm extremely proud to announce that our sister station AM-1230 WCLO was named "Best News Operation" - Medium Market. Way to go WCLO/WJVL News Team! News Director Stan Stricker, Steve Benton, Beth Wheelock, & News Flow Editor Kyle Geissler.

Thanks for listening to WJVL!

Awesome Wjvl/Wclo are the best in the market. I haved listened to JVL since they went COUNTRY In 1982! I started tuning into Wclo after Beloit Lost there radio station in the early 90's. Yes i grew up listening to Steve Benton on WBEL. So i was very happy when he landed @ Wclo/Wjvl.
