Pampered Pets
When I was a kid, we raised just about every animal there is. Cats, dogs, ducks, geese, chickens, turkeys, goats and a little of this and a little of that. These days, it's Conrad and Calvin (2 cats) and a dozen or so fresh water fish. Does feeding the wild birds outside count? Anyway...I found this article interesting.
The American Kennel Club, American Pet Products Manufacturers Association and Cyber-Pet have released new surveys on American pet owners.
The surveys found that pet ownership is at an all-time high in the United States. More than 71 million homes (about 63% of all U.S. households) have at least one pet.
Here are some other information according to the Detroit Free Press:
· Top pets: dogs (44.8%), followed by cats (38.4%) and freshwater fish (14.2%).
· There are 142 million freshwater fish and 88.3 million cats in U.S. homes, compared with 74.8 million dogs.
· Americans will spend $43.4 billion on pets in 2008.
· On average, food and veterinarian care for a dog costs about $890 annually, compared with $726 for a cat.
· More than half of pet owners say they’ve bought at least one gift for their pet in the last year.
· 19% of dog owners take Fido along on vacation.
· More than 20% of owners say their dogs sleep with them regularly.
Can you relate to any of this info? Any special ways you spoil your pets? We'll, I'm off to clean my fish tank!

Guilty as charged Justin! My cat, Rascal (hence the username), has been labelled very spoiled by all I know. He has a padded baby crib which holds all his toys. He's 5 years old and like jesygrl, he is my baby. But he doesn't sleep there! Oh no! He sleeps with momma. Has ever since I got him at 2 months old. But I take great care of him (same people say that) and his vet reminds me of James Herriot! He even has his own song "Love you out loud" by Rascal Flatts (guess where his name came from!)

Needless to say our 7 month old golden retriever, Reilley, is quite the spoiled little girl! She has been sleeping in our bed since she was three months old and I just thank god we have a king size bed! The little girl who was like 20 pounds is now pushing 60! Gifts- bandanas, toys, and trying every different treat till we landed on the perfect one count and it turned out that the best treat was for a cat? I think we do go overboard just a little bit, but she is like our first born! Justin- You have Mallory and we have Reilley. Sure we have 3 cats as well but they nothing like a dog! We can't just up a leave for the weekend like before and if we do we bring her with and I find my self packing a doggie diaper bag with her essentials; treats, toys, water, food, and of course her doggie wipes! No i don't wipe her butt- they are is case her gets dirty! Sure i spend enough on her, but she is our "starter child", remember baby steps!
