Northwoods Weekend
Thanks to Jennifer Powers for filling in for me while I was gone on Thursday and Friday. My family and I went to Eagle River Thursday night through Sunday. My sister Elisabeth and her family (Husband Ryan; sons Connor & Garrett) drove up from Iowa a day before and we met up with them at the Cabin we rented. (Gypsy Villa).
Friday we did a little fishing with the kids, but the two, soon to be 2 year olds, just aren't at the age yet where their attention spans allow for much fishing. So it was short lived. My nephew Connor on the other hand (now 4) really got into it and caught his 1st fish. Friday night we hung out at the "house" and grilled out and caught up with one another.
On Saturday we went to Minocqua to see Jim Peck's Wildwood Park. Some may recall this is where I proposed to Mary at. So for us, it was the 'return to the scene of the crime!' When we got there, it was overcast and getting ready to rain. We hoped we'd beat the rain, but didn't. So we hopped back in our vehicles and decided to kill some time and hope the rain would pass.
Most of us agreed we could eat something so we headed to another "Northwoods" favorite. Paul Bunyan's. Mmm! Mmm! Gotta love that home cookin' from Babe the Blue Ox! By the way, there's a location in the Wisconsin Dells too if you didn't already know.
After "brunch", we got lucky and the rain had stopped. For now. We headed back to Jim Peck's Wildwood Park. The kids really seemed to enjoy it! The rain started up again just as we were finishing up walking around the park. There is so much to see and do there and they've really expanded since we were there in 2004-2005. If you haven't been there before or for some time, check it out!
Sunday before we headed back home, we drove up to Bond Falls near Paulding, Michigan in the U.P. I had been to the Paulding Light several times during High School but I had never visited the Falls. It was beautiful! It's a must see if you are ever that far north.
