Take a Trip Back In Time

Take a Trip Back In Time

By Ken Scott ( Contact )   March 10, 2008

I guess it's kind of like looking at old photographs. Although the older I get, certain eras don't seem that long ago...but they were!
Yesterday was a lazy day at my house. Everyone watching TV. My daughter and I downstairs in the family room watching "Meet The Parents" and my wife in our room watching a video. Yes, we still have VCRs in our house...DVD players too but we haven't converted everything over to DVD. My wife was watching a video that she recorded in 1988. She loves old movies and she records and saves them for future viewing. It was very cool to look at the commercials for the cars and various products. What struck me was the pace. Even 1988 had a bit slower pace. The commercials and network promos were not "in your face" with lots of quick editing and special effects. Most of the computer generated effects that we take for granted now, were not created yet. It seems that everything created now is created with the theory that we all have attention spans of 10 seconds. Bottom line, it was nice taking a trip back to 1988 for a while! If you have some old tapes, don't destroy them, put them in and watch. It's your own personal time machine.
