Evel Knievel

Evel Knievel

By Tim Beggs ( Contact )   December 14, 2007

Most of you know who Evel Knievel was. There's no doubt that he was an American Legend. He was put to rest in his hometown of Butte, Mt. this week. Butte is a city with as much character as Evel himself. A hardrock mining town known as The Richest Hill on Earth. I called Butte home for many years. I went to college there, I worked in radio there and had the honor to play a few holes on the golf course with Evel one day. My friend Dennis Nettles and I were out at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort when he noticed Evel and his gang coming up behind us. Dennis knew Evel, in fact he worked for him during the Snake River Canyon jump. I had interviewed Evel a year before when his son Robbie was preparing for a jump of his own. We stood along the tee box talking when Evel asked us to join him and his group finish the round. As a kid I thought Evel Knievel was the coolest guy ever. What kid didn't? My Buddy had the Evel Knievel lunchbox growing up. He had the wind up motorcycle deal and the skycycle too! It was a day I'll never forget golfing with a legend. Rest in peace Evel and thanks for the memories.

Hey you should get a Jump Suit like Evel use to wear. That would really make your collection complete! I Mean you'd have the Elvis one, Evel Knievel one, and the Cook County jail one!!!!!
