The New Billy Ray Cyrus

The New Billy Ray Cyrus

By Tim Beggs ( Contact )   September 23, 2008

The "new" Billy Ray Cyrus is as popular as ever. The "old" one was pretty popular too. Back in his "Achy Breaky Heart" days Billy Ray Cyrus was on top of the country music world. I saw it first hand at the Country Radio Seminar in 1993 in Nashville, Tennessee. We had a brief encounter one night in the lobby of the Opryland Hotel. He had a small army around him as he moved through the crowd and before you knew it he ran right into me as if he couldn't see me. My drink covered my shirt as he glared a look like "get the heck out of my way". In a second it was over. Hey I was here first I thought as I tried to dry myself off a bit. Since then I wasn't much of a fan. Time does have a way of healing old wounds. I've pretty much gotten over the whole deal, but thought about it prior to meeting him before his performance at the Walworth County Fair in Elkhorn. I'll admit he's done very well over the years. Although he's no Lloyd Bridges, his acting abilities are respectful in the "Doc" and "Hannah Montana" series. He's maintained himself as a household name in country music for several years. He was genuine and sincere when we last talked and I didn't bring up the fact that we had met "briefly" in the past. Image

I saw Billy Ray in his Achy Breaky Heart days and this summer at the Walworth County Fair. He was fabulous both times and puts on a great show. He's the reason I started listening to Country Music. He opened the CM door for me. I love him! (With or without the mullet! :)

Question is.....Maybe he was jealous of the MULLET you were sporting at the time!!!!

Billy Ray has always been a pleasure to talk to when I've met him. And besides "Achy Breaky Heart" I like most of his stuff.
