Although the song was originally written and released a few years ago, it still resonates with listeners — and more so. First written by Matt after the passing of his father, he decided to re-release the updated version of “Hey Dad” after hearing all of the personal stories of how the song impacted listeners and their families week after week, year after year. For 5+ years he’s been getting emails, DMs and posts on his socials about how this song, above all his others, struck a chord as a song about family… the heart of the country genre. Also, in Matt’s head, he’d always envisioned a different “telling” of this story, sonically speaking.
Matt has been traveling the country on his Hometown House Party tour and by the end of this year will log 80+ shows from coast to coast. He has also been in the studio recording new music which is expected to be released this fall. “Hey Dad (2021)” is being released just before Father’s Day and will impact BDS indicator/MB activator radio June 21 as part of the larger on-going campaign.
