SUMMARY:80th Anniversary Celebration of Petunia City Squares
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating 80 years in Beloit \nWhat’s the connection between the Beloit teachers in 1946 and the all-American folk dance?\nHere’s a hint: this dance is performed only in English around the world\, a uniquely American blend of Quadrille\, Contra\, and Mountain dances. \nIf you guessed square dance\, you are correct! Beloit is home to one of the longest running square dance clubs in Wisconsin\, Petunia City Squares\, that was started 80th years ago as a recreational opportunity by Beloit teachers. \nAll square and folk dancers are invited to our 80th anniversary celebration this Saturday at 7:30 PM at People’s Church in Beloit\, where Tom Manning will be calling modern square dancing and Wayne Irwin will be cueing round dancing. \nSaturday evening’s theme is “Dancing Thru the Decades.” All are welcome to dress in the decade style of their choice and come celebrate with us! \nThis is a great opportunity to “Be Beloit Proud.” There is no set fee for non-dancers\, but freewill donations are gratefully accepted in support of this local legacy. \nFor more information\, you can find Petunia City Squares on Facebook and at its 80th Anniversary Celebration Dance at 7:30 PM Saturday\, September 26 at People’s Church\, 340 West Grand Ave in Beloit.
