Former WJVL DJ “Uncle” JD Barber to be Honored

Our hearts are full! All of us at 99.9 WJVL are happy to share some exciting news about the late, “Uncle” J.D. Barber.
The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association recently announced that 4 will be recognized as “Local Broadcast Legends” award winners, including former WJVL Saturday morning host and “A Day in the Country” writer, producer, and host J.D. Barber.
J.D. woke up listeners on Madison radio in the 80s on the Top-40 station and in the 90s on two Madison Country stations, before being semi-retired and hosting Saturday mornings for 99.9 WJVL in the early 2000s, until his sudden passing in late December of 2007.
The WBA Local Broadcast Legends Award was established in 2015 and recognizes individuals who work behind the scenes and within their communities fulfilling the commitment broadcasters have made to serve their local communities.
Despite his very outgoing, quirky, and funny personality on the radio, J.D. was quite shy and very humble. I imagine if he were with us today, his cheeks would turn red in embarrassment, and wonder what all this attention was for. ~Justin Brown
