A year after it closed, local candy store the Sugar Exchange now returns to downtown Janesville.

New owner-operator Jess Van Horn says her family bought the Sugar Exchange — homemade fudge recipes and all — and has relaunched the shop at 211 W. Milwaukee St.

That’s several blocks west and across the Rock River from the shop’s initial Block 42 location on North Main Street.

The Sugar Exchange closed last year with former owner Courtney Perakis selling the business itself and its candy recipes at auction.

Van Horn says with the new Sugar Exchange, the 200 block of West Milwaukee’s storefronts are officially 100% filled.

The first order of business at the shop, Van Horn says, was the relaunch of a popular holiday item — the Sugar Exchange’s chocolate truffle Advent calendars.

Van Horn says the Sugar Exchange is adding one new surprise — coffee from Mocha Moment.
