A Janesville man is accused of hitting a squad car and leading police on a high-speed chase.

Timothy D. Douthitt, 29, of Janesville faces charges of attempting to flee or elude an officer, recklessly endangering safety, and hit and run.

Prosecutors say an officer spotted Douthitt in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Robert O. Cook Memorial Arboretum off Memorial Drive in Janesville during closed hours on Dec. 30. The officer noticed the vehicle start driving forward, so he activated his emergency lights and told the driver to stop.

Douthitt continued to drive forward, and the officer moved out of the way to avoid being hit. The suspect scraped the side of the officer’s squad car and sped off.

The officer chased Douthitt through the western outskirts of Janesville onto Ridge Drive and eventually Highway 11, where he accelerated to speeds reaching 112 mph. The officer followed the suspect for nearly 12 miles before ending the pursuit for safety reasons. Douthitt is due to make his initial court appearance at the end of the month.
