Janesville’s Milton Avenue corridor could start looking more like “Woodman’s Avenue.”
Janesville planning officials haven’t given details, but the owner of a vacant, 3-acre lot at 2826 Milton Avenue is Woodman’s Food Market.
City planning administrator Duane Cherek says Woodman’s plans to develop a new gas station/convenience store, oil change, and car wash on site.
Cherek announced the proposed project to inform the plan commission of a neighborhood meeting Woodman’s slated Jan. 17.
Cherek says Woodman’s intends then to give details of the proposed project. It’s being planned at a vacant lot just 500 feet north of Uptown Janesville, the mall at 2500 Milton Avenue. That’s where the city is now building the future Woodman’s Sports & Convention Center — a 140,000-square-foot ice arena with a convention and multi-sport space.
The Milton Avenue lot where the station is planned is directly west of Woodman’s Janesville supermarket. Woodman’s already operates a gas station and car wash adjacent to its Janesville supermarket. It’s not clear what Woodman’s new plan would spell for that station.
Cherek says the redevelopment would include work by the city to reconfigure an adjacent frontage road intersection at Milton Avenue and Lodge Drive.
The public can attend the neighborhood meeting for the new development. It’s being held at 9 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Woodman’s Plaza, 2919 N. Lexington Drive.
