It doesn’t look like anyone will be fishing on the pond at Rock River Heritage County Park anytime soon.

The Friends of Rock County Parks are feeling a little discouraged after the county parks department siphoned millions of gallons of H2O from the Rock River to increase the water level in the pond at the newest county park.

President Carl Lange says unfortunately, after rising several feet, the water didn’t stay.

Lange says they think the clay layer on the bottom of that man-made, artificial pond is not sufficient to prevent leakage.

Parks Manager John Traynor said in March that when the property was acquired from the Boy Scouts the pond was about 10 feet low. It’s supposed to be close to 30 feet deep.
