Rock County’s courthouse is almost ready to roll on an upgrade to courtroom audio-visual equipment that officials say is both needed and required by law.

Audio-visual technology contractor Forte of Madison is wrapping up designs for an upgraded, closed-loop AV system for four heavily used courtrooms — rooms A, B, C and D.

That’s alongside an AV reboot to the second-floor Jury Assembly Room, also known as “the JAR,” to allow the court more flexible use of the room. It is the courthouse’s biggest courtroom space.

Rock County IT project manager Craig Hurda says the AV project could roll in a few weeks and should be complete by late fall — or by the latest, the end of 2025.

Hurda says contractors and the county’s IT team are working with the court’s judiciary team to schedule a build-out that minimizes disruptions to major court cases and court calendars overall.

Hurda says the four courtrooms must have six-year-old AV equipment to meet standards for streaming video and audio systems required under state law.

The whole job will cost $775,000. The county already has OK’d funding for the work
