The Beloit Police and Fire Commission appears poised to appoint an interim chief of police while they conduct a search for a permanent replacement for Chief Andre Sayles who announced he’s leaving the department next month.

According to the agenda for their May 19th meeting, the Police and Fie Commission will vote on a resolution to appoint Inspector Thomas Stigler as interim chief following Sayles’ last day on June 6th.  Stigler previously served as interim chief after former police chief David Zibolski departed in 2020.

In a letter posted to the department’s Facebook page, Sayles says he accepted another job that will allow him to continue his career and contribute to a new community. Sayles says he likely be ready to announce where his new job will be next week

Sayles started his law enforcement career with BPD in January 2005, serving as sergeant, lieutenant and captain before being appointed chief in 2021.

In addition to selecting an interim police chief, the Police and Fire Commission agenda for Monday includes an update from the police department on cooperation with federal authorities on immigration matters at the request of Commissioner Dennis Miller.
