New stops signs are coming to a rural Rock County intersection.

The county highway department says it will be installing new four-way stop signs at the intersection of county highways A and H about 3½ miles west of Janesville.

Right now, only County H traffic has to stop at the intersection. The signs will go in early the morning of Wednesday, May 28, and the new traffic pattern will start that day.

County Public Works Director Duane Jorgenson says the new signs are in response to a history of crashes and reported near-misses at the intersection.

The highway department is making sure motorists can’t miss the new stop signs controlling traffic on County A. The installation will include flashing “Stop Ahead” signs, flashing lights on the stop signs themselves, warning flags, reflective strips and message boards leading up to the intersection.

Jorgenson says the state is also planning to install a roundabout at Highway 14 and County H and make intersection upgrades at Highway 11 and County H in coming years.
