The Beloit City Council gets their first real look at a study commissioned by the City, Visit Beloit, and Beloit Youth Hockey that takes a deep dive into the potential future of the Edwards Ice Arena.

The study, which was released late last year found a second sheet of ice could be added at Edwards for about $15 million. A new two-sheet ice area in a different location would cost about $18 million.

City Manager Jerry Gabrielatos says Beloit has a host of potential capital projects on the horizon at the police station, Krueger Pool, Grinnell Hall, and the Wood Family train bridge, in addition to the ice arena.

Gabrielatos says Monday night’s discussion prior to the City Council meeting is intended to get the ball rolling on a larger discussion on the City’s capital needs.

The City of Janesville’s new two-sheet ice arena – the Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center is set to open in September at Uptown Janesville.
