The Beloit teenager accused of shooting a 19-year-old woman two Christmases ago will spend his 18th birthday in prison.
Jahmir Smith, who turns 18 on Friday, pleaded guilty in September to attempted second-degree intentional homicide with use of a dangerous weapon. He was originally charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
Beloit police say officers were dispatched to the intersection of Porter and Yates avenues shortly before 11 a.m. on Dec. 25, 2023, on a report that a woman had been shot while driving a car.
According to the criminal complaint, officers viewed surveillance video in the area and identified Smith as a suspect.
In Rock County Court Wednesday afternoon, Judge Ashley Morse sentenced Smith to eight years in prison and eight years of extended supervision.
