BELOIT NEIGHBORHOOD TREE PROJECT: Community Planning Meetings
January 27 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeBELOIT, Wis. – You are warmly invited to attend the first of three community planting planning meetings for the Beloit Neighborhood Tree Project, held at the Beloit Public Library on Tuesday, January 27, at 5:30 p.m. Join Rock River Coalition in Community Room (South) to share your thoughts and ideas about where you would like to see more tree rich green spaces in Beloit.
Childcare will be available in the neighboring room during the meeting.
These meetings begin phase two of Rock River Coalition’s Beloit Neighborhood Tree Project to increase, sustain, and diversify the tree canopy over private single and multi-family residential properties, schools, community organizations, businesses, and public properties by planting and maintaining trees. Trees provide cooling relief in summer, improve air quality and help the ground absorb more rainfall, which can lead to less flooding of homes and roadways and reduce polluted runoff into the Rock River.
This project is supported by many local partners including La Voz de Beloit, Community Action Inc., Beloit Fresh Start, the City of Beloit Parks Department, Welty Environmental Center, and Nature at the Confluence.
This project is funded by a $200,000 grant awarded by River Network as part of their Rooting Resilience Program, and a $25,000 grant from Alliant Energy Foundation in 2025. Rock River Coalition was honored to accept additional grants from the Green Bay Packers Foundation and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to continue to support planting trees in Beloit in 2026.
A registration link can be found at rockrivercoaliton.org. Registration is not required to attend the meeting but is appreciated. Visit the project page on our website, where progress updates will be posted as well as meeting materials over the coming months.
