The city of Janesville appears to have caught the brunt of a gusty weather system that passed through southern Wisconsin late Friday into Saturday.

Evidence of that was most visible along Milton Avenue. Several large tree limbs were down in Milton Lawns Memorial Park just south of Uptown Janesville.

A line of trees separating the park from the mall’s parking lot appeared to blow over together, taking down a chain-link fence between the properties.

The Boucher Hyundai car dealership on the west side of the thoroughfare had to board up sections of its showroom that’s walled in on all sides by floor-to-ceiling windows.

Signage up and down the street was also blown out or blown over, including at Burger King, the Janesville Plaza strip mall across the street from Uptown Janesville and a U.S. Bank branch, to name a few.

Residential neighborhoods east of the Rock River also contended with large tree limbs that cleaved off their main trunks. One home in the 900 block of Matheson Street took a direct hit through the roof; another a couple of blocks south suffered a glancing blow that ripped off a corner portion of roof and gutter.

Trees were also toppled on the south side along Afton Road and the Peace Trail.
