Janesville police say a seventh-grade student is being treated at a hospital for injuries after he was hit at a crosswalk while he was on his way to Marshall Middle School Friday morning.

They’re investigating it as a bicycle versus vehicle accident.

A Janesville PD spokesman says a vehicle was stopped near a crosswalk by the middle school at 25 South Pontiac Drive, waiting for students to cross Friday morning. The accident happened about 7:20 a.m. Friday.

Police say a seventh-grader on a bike may have entered the crosswalk without the driver seeing them. The vehicle and the student on the bike apparently collided.

Police characterize the injuries as “minor,” and they say the driver stopped to check on the student.

Police say it’s not yet clear who was at fault, and the investigation is ongoing.

A social media post by a person identifying themselves as a parent shows images of a boy in a neck brace, laying in a hospital bed in the emergency room at a local hospital.

Janesville School District confirmed the incident, telling Big Radio the district informed the school board in an email that a child was struck and injured at a crosswalk near the middle school on Friday morning, and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
