HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN RADIO? In our little town, population about 4,000, we had a small radio station. I was looking for a summer job in 1979 (my junior year of high school). I went up and down Main Street filling out applications and they were on the list. they called me that afternoon and asked if I wanted to be on the air.
HOBBIES: Hiking, fishing and I enjoy working/playing in my recording studio.
FAVORITE COUNTRY ARTISTS: I have always been a big Willie Nelson fan and I enjoy bluegrass music (although I’m not familiar with many artists). I also like Buck Owens and Steve Earle and Junior Brown. Lately, I’ve gotten into Hank III and Brantley Gilbert.
WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING IF YOU WEREN’T IN RADIO? I would be running my production company, Austintatious Productions, full time. My wife and I have also talked about owning a small store.
FAVORITE QUOTE: This comes from the late Ken Hendricks… I’m paraphrasing: “A ship is safest when it’s at rest, anchored in the harbor. But, ships aren’t meant to stay anchored in the harbor.” Meaning, we should live life to the fullest and take a few risks.
